Overview

The Planner is a tool to help teachers plan their schedule day by day and class by class. It allows teachers to display their schedule through multiple views so they can plan for a day, week, or longer. These multiple views enable teachers to view their schedule from different perspectives, building out a specific day in the “Day View” and viewing that day within the big picture of their entire schedule in the “Timeline View.” The information displayed about each day will vary slightly depending on which view the teacher is using, but includes: class schedules, no school events, assignments that are due on that day, lesson plans for the day, resource reservation, etc.

Portal Access

The Planner View may be added to the portal via the portal shortcut link {system:faculty_planner_timeline}. Schools may add this as a component or as part of the navigation bar.

Views

Timeline View

The Timeline view displays all classes for the teacher and summarizes assignments and lesson plans for each day and class. This may be accessed by adding a  portal link with the URL {system:faculty_planner_timeline}.

Classes are automatically collapsed in the Timeline view. This means that the Planner only displays basic summary information for each class. When the class is collapsed assignments are plotted on the Timeline only according to their due date. Classes can be expanded by clicking the class name in the Class Details column. When a class is expanded, assignments are plotted for their entire duration (assigned date to due date). This enables the teacher to see the overlap between multiple assignments during their assigned range.

Key Features of the Timeline View

  • Class Detail
The left column of the Timeline view displays a list of all the teacher’s classes and their assignments due that day. A detailed view of all assignments can be expanded by selecting the “+ Show” link in the Class Detail column header. Expanding this view will display an “Upcoming” assignments section on each day that lists all the upcoming assignments for that month. Links to the Class Calendar and Gradebook are included in this column below the class name. Teachers can also access their weekly planner from the ‘Plan Week’ link. This will open the Week view of the Planner.
  • Assignments Due
The number of assignments due across all classes for each day totals below the blue date header. Each assignment that is due for that day will also be displayed in its own “Due” box for quick browsing across the Timeline.
  • Assignment Details
A summary of each assignment can be accessed by clicking on the assignment block.
  • Lesson Plans
If available (i.e. created by the teacher), the lesson plan displays at the top of each day block for the class. Click on the blue lesson plan button to open the plan for that day. The lesson plan can be edited or deleted, as desired.

Week View

The Week View summarizes all information for a single class for a single week. It includes each class meeting time, lesson plans, assignments, resource reservations (if they exist), and tasks (if they exist). This view enables a teacher to plan for a single class for the entire week on one screen.

Key Features of the Week View

Other sections and classes taught by the teacher can easily be viewed by hover the cursor over the class title and selecting the desired class or section from the dropdown. Day View
