IB MYP Grade Detail Report

As of July 12, 2021, this "Learn Veracross" site has been deprecated.  It will remain live through December 2022, but will no longer be updated. All knowledge content has moved to the new Veracross Community.  Please update your bookmarks.

Here is the new version of this article in the Veracross Community.

Overview

The Veracross Teacher Portal offers a specialized version of the Grade Detail Report for classes configured for the IB Middle Years Program (MYP). The Grade Detail Report displays MYP assignments organized by the four core MYP criteria. It also lists Classwork assignments, evaluated without MYP criteria, in a separate section either with a numerical grade or with a completion status.

Configuration for MYP Grading

Once a Veracross Account Manager has enabled MYP functionality for a school, specific configuration is required on an individual basis for each class. For general class configuration instructions, please see the main Class Configuration article.

In short, to ensure that a class is configured correctly, first navigate to a Find Class query from the System homepage and search for the class in question. From the class detail screen, click to the Other tab in the left sidebar menu. Certain fields must be configured in order for the class to operate with the MYP functionality. Specifically, the Grading System field must be set to “IB Boundary Conversion,” the Grade Conversion Scale must be set to “MYP Criteria,” and the Assignment Grading Method must be set to “IB MYP Criteria” or “IB MYP & Generic Criteria.”

Next, navigate to the Permissions tab (under Configuration) in the left sidebar menu. There are two fields on this tab that control what aspects of assignments appear on the parent and student portals. In order for the Grade Detail Report to be displayed on either or both of these portals, select the “Assignments+Status+Scores+Grade Detail” option in the appropriate fields.

MYP Grade Detail Report Organization

The Grade Detail Report is organized into two main sections: Subject Criteria and Classwork.

Subject Criteria

The Subject Criteria section is organized by the four criteria specific to the MYP curriculum. Assignments of all types (Classwork, Homework, Quizzes, Tests, etc.) are grouped by criterion. Each assignment will appear up to four times, once for each criterion selected for that assignment. For each listing, the Subject Criteria section will report due date, assignment type, assignment description, and achievement level for the relevant criteria.

Classwork

The Classwork section displays specific assignments with a particular combination of options (see below). Assignments are listed in descending order by due date, and will display due date, type, and description. In the final column, the Classwork section will display either an overall numeric grade (if applicable) or an assignment status (Complete, Late, etc.).

MYP Assignment Configuration

For every MYP assignment, there are five settings that may be applied. These settings include the “Include in Calculated Grade” checkbox, the official MYP criteria grades (A, B, C, and/or D), the Assignment Status, the Overall Numeric Grade, and non-MYP criteria (i.e. Effort). MYP assignments will display on the MYP grade detail report according to the settings specified.

In addition, there are some field settings on assignments that, while crucial for other functionality, are not factors in the structure of the MYP Grade Detail Report. Those fields include Assignment Type, Due Date, the Extra Credit flag, and Display on Portals. Do note that the Display on Portals field must be set to “Displayed” in order for that assignment to be included on the Grade Detail Report published to parent and student portals, if applicable. For more details, please refer to documentation on Assignment Workflow.

Subject Criteria Section Assignment Settings

For an assignment to appear in the Subject Criteria section, it must have the following options selected, in order of general priority:

  1. Include in Calc Grade must be set to “Yes.”
  2. One or more Official MYP Criteria must be selected.
  3. For Overall Assignment Status, a Complete, Not Turned In, Incomplete, Late, or Complete/No Credit status must be selected. A selection of Pending, Turned In/Not Graded, or Not Required to Complete will prevent the assignment from displaying, regardless of any other option.
  4. The Overall Assignment Grade may either be populated or left blank, but the grade will not be displayed on the Grade Detail Report.

The other settings present on the assignment detail screen may be populated, but the values of those fields will not affect the view on the MYP Grade Detail Report.

Classwork Section Assignment Settings

For an assignment to appear in the Classwork section, the assignment must have the following combination of options, in order of general priority:

  1. Include in Calc Grade must be set to “Yes.”
  2. No Official MYP Criteria should be selected.
  3. For Overall Assignment Status, a Complete, Not Turned In, Incomplete, Late, or Complete/No Credit status must be selected. A selection of Pending, Turned In/Not Graded, or Not Required to Complete will prevent the assignment from displaying, regardless of any other option.
  4. The Overall Assignment Grade may either be populated or left blank, and will be displayed on the Grade Detail Report.

Example Report

The adjacent screenshot shows how different types of assignments appear on the Grade Detail Report. Note: It is easy to confuse the “Classwork” assignment type with the lower section of the Grade Detail Report, both of which are called “Classwork.” As detailed in the information above, the Assignment Type setting itself is not a factor in how the assignment appears on the Grade Detail Report. Assignments with the Classwork assignment type can appear in either the Subject Criteria section or the Classwork section of the Grade Detail Report; the display is instead dependent on how the assignment itself is configured.
