Hiding Information in Portals

Overview

The portals are a great place to display relevant information to teachers, parents, and students. A key part of presenting relevant information, though, is making sure the content is timely, and it may be beneficial to hide certain information during the summer while working on schedules, classes, etc. Here are the most common items that schools hide during this period. All of the queries referenced are on the System homepage.

Parent and Student Portals

Schedule Document

Hide the schedule document to prevent any classes the child is enrolled in from displaying on the portal. 

  • Navigate to the Grade Levels queryRead more here.
  • Update the Enable Portal Schedules” flag.

Note: To prevent students from viewing hidden schedule information for a grading period, make sure that Reports Cards are not published for that grading period. 

Classes

Hide certain classes (or all of them with batch update).

  • Navigate to Review Class Configuration query.
  • Update the “Parent Portal Visibility” and “Student Portal Visibility” flags.

Attendance Detail Document

Hide the attendance detail document.

  • Navigate to the Grade Levels query.
  • Update the “Enable Portal Attendance Reports” flag for the relevant grade level(s).

Report Cards / Progress Reports for All Users

Hide report cards and progress reports.

  • Navigate to the Grade Levels query.
  • Update the “Enable Portal Report Cards” and “Enable Portal Progress Reports” flags.

Report Cards / Progress Reports for Individual Users

Hide individual students’ report cards and progress reports.

  • Navigate to the Find Report Cards query.
  • Update the “Exclude from Portals” flag.

Teacher Portal

Classes

Hide classes in teacher portals.

  • Navigate to the Find Class Permissions query.
  • Update the “Teacher Portal Visibility” flag.
