Generate Missing Relationships

Overview

Each night a process runs that creates "missing" relationships between people based on preexisting relationships.  Typically only immediate-family relationships and sometimes grandparent relationships are entered by users of Veracross.  Based on these relationships, Veracross can create additional relationships to create extended family-trees.  This results in more accurate profiles for Students, Parents, Donors, etc.  It also has particular benefit to Admissions departments who depend on such relationships to determine the Legacy status of a Prospect or Applicant.

While this feature creates tremendous benefit in the form of additional relationship data and reduced data-entry, it can magnify data-integrity problems if the preexisting relationships are not accurate.  Inaccurate relationships typically comprise less than 1-2% of all relationships, so while there exists the possibility of producing additional inaccurate relationships, such problems pale in comparison to the benefit of the vast number of new, accurate relationships.
