Overview
Fonts are a great way to bring character and impact to your Composer email. Type is often rendered differently across different email clients (Outlook, Apple Mail, Gmail etc.) and so the fonts you are able to use inside of your Composer email are limited. Composer does not load any external fonts due to limited support across all email clients. It is up to the user’s device to have the font you specify readily available on the device they are viewing the email on. For this reason, only cross-platform fonts are available in Composer themes.
Examples
You can specify more than one font in the “Font Family” field of a template. Here are two examples of font stacks (lists of fonts) that are the most likely to be supported across all devices:
- sans-serif option: Helvetica, Arial, Verdana, Trebuchet MS, sans-serif
- serif option: Georgia, Times New Roman, Courier
These lists mean that the email recipient’s mail program will display the email contents using the first font on the list, unless that font is not installed, in which case it moves to the second, and so on. The final “sans-serif” option means that if none of the previously listed fonts are found, the end-user’s default system sans-serif font will be used.
