Overview
The Administrator Mobile Directory App is available for FREE via the Apple App Store (for iOS) and via Google Play (for Android). Just search ‘Veracross Directory for Administrators’ on your iOS device, or ‘VC Directory’ on your Android device. The Android version of the Administrator Mobile Directory App is currently pending updates so may not function as intended on some Android phones.
This app is intended to bring contact information of individuals in your school’s database quickly and efficiently to your mobile device. Below you will find information on how to use this application.
Download the App
You can download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play:
Security
Those with the following security roles can access the app: Sysadmins; Division_Heads, Head_of_School, Development_1, Guidance_1, and Registrar.
Logging In
To log in, enter your Veracross username. Select whether or not you would like your username to be saved for the next time you launch the application and press the login button. If the login was successful you will be taken to the next screen. If it was unsuccessful, an alert will pop-up explaining why you were unable to log in.
Navigating the Group Tree
The first time you launch the application the group tree will download from your school’s database. Once the group categories, group types and groups are downloaded they will be saved to your device so they do not have to download again. You can refresh the group tree at any time by pressing the refresh button at the top of the home screen. It is a good idea to refresh the app from time-to-time as group types and groups may change over time.
Once you navigate to a group a list of members will be retrieved from the database and listed in alphabetical order. The top 50 members will be shown. To show more, simply scroll to the bottom of the list and more members will be retrieved and added to the list. If no more members can be retrieved from the group a dot will be shown at the bottom of the list.
Pressing a person in the list will take you to their detail screen. This screen shows information such as their picture, name, birthday, roles, phone numbers, email addresses, student info, faculty info, relationships to other people and groups they are in.
Pressing a phone number will call that number, pressing an email will open up the mail app with that email, pressing their address will open up the maps app with that address. Relationships and groups are initially collapsed but can be viewed by simply pressing on each list item respectively.
Pressing on the person’s picture will open a full-size view.
Pressing the add contact button in the top right of the person detail screen will allow that person and their contact information to be quickly added to your phone’s address book.
Group Actions
When viewing a list of groups, swiping any list item will pop open a group action menu. From here, you can email all the members in the group, using the group email alias, or view all the members in the group via a map view. From the map view a pin can be selected and the associated person’s detail screen can be viewed.
Navigation
Because this application promotes exploration, it is often the case that one might get too deep in the navigation tree and hitting the back button over and over isn’t quick enough. In order to get back to the home screen at any time, swipe the top navigation bar to the left and you will be taken back to the home page.
Searching
From the home page, a user can search for any person in the database. Type in the search criteria and hit the search button. The top 50 results will be shown. Keep scrolling to show more results. The results are sorted alphabetically. You can search for people by their name, their spouses name, any of their phone numbers, their address, or their email.
